Bluehost vs Wix: Which Is Better in 2023?

So, you’re in the market to create a website, and you’ve heard of Bluehost and Wix. They’re both popular options, but they serve different purposes. Bluehost is all about web hosting with WordPress functions, while Wix is a website builder.

I started this website with Bluehost, and it was a great place to build. But I’ve also built websites with Wix. If you’re starting a blog or text-heavy website, Bluehost is a better place to be. With WordPress, you get the web’s top content management system. If you’re starting an online store or website for a business that needs fewer pages, Wix is a quick and easy way to get that done.

We’ll break this down more in the post. Here’s how Bluehost vs Wix compares.

Bluehost vs Wix: Which is best?

If you’re considering Wix vs Bluehost, which is best? There’s actually a really easy way to figure it out, and it depends on what you want it for. If you want a content-heavy website with lots of control, say like a blog or news site, or a company site with a big resource section, choose Bluehost. If you want a site for your business or e-commerce, choose Wix.

Easy peasy. I’ll explain why in more detail below.

Bluehost vs Wix: Overview

Bluehost is a web hosting provider that comes loaded with WordPress, and it’s easy to get a blog or content-heavy site up and running. Since my goal when I started was to make money blogging, I started Roostervane with Bluehost.

Here’s what it has going for it:

  • WordPress Hosting: Bluehost is recommended by WordPress.org for its seamless integration with WordPress. It’s really easy to get up and running, and WordPress is my favorite content management system (and yes, I’ve used others). Bluehost offers specialized hosting for WordPress websites, with easy setup, fast performance, and enhanced security. WordPress is also still WAY better for SEO, meaning your posts or articles can be discovered on Google.
  • WooCommerce: Bluehost provides hosting solutions designed for online stores, including powerful tools for managing and optimizing WooCommerce-based websites. These features help with scheduling, SEO, and enhancing the overall online shopping experience. BUT I happen to think Wix is probably better for eCommerce. More on that in a minute.
  • Shared Hosting: Bluehost’s shared hosting plans make it quick and easy to get a website online-for a low price point. The Basic plan with hosting for one website, 10 GB SSD storage, and customizable WordPress themes starts from $3.99/mo
  • Dedicated Hosting: For premium websites, Bluehost offers dedicated hosting options. These plans provide greater power and flexibility, making them suitable for websites with high traffic.
  • Domains: Bluehost offers domain registration services, allowing users to choose and register their preferred domain names.
  • Email: Bluehost provides email hosting services, enabling users to create professional email addresses associated with their domain names.
  • Pro Services: Bluehost offers professional services, including website design, digital marketing, and Pro Design Live Support. These services are designed to help users create polished and effective online presences.
  • The Help: The best Bluehost feature is probably the help section. You can get help quickly and easily for pretty much anything by jumping on the live 24/7 chat. I do it often!
  • Resources: Bluehost provides educational resources such as an Academy, Blog, Events & Webinars, and a Knowledge Base to empower users with knowledge and insights.

Bluehost vs Wix: Comparison

Bluehost vs Wix: Features

Bluehost is a web host with features like unlimited storage, bandwidth, and email accounts. It has a lot of different website building tools, but I believe the single greatest one is WordPress. Bluehost’s servers are optimized for WordPress, making it a good place to host a content-heavy site.

Wix, on the other hand, is a website builder with a drag-and-drop editor; this makes it easy to customize designs and layouts. It has a lot of templates, which means you get get your store, portfolio, or business site up and running sooner. And there are pretty easy integrations with things like PayPal, Google Analytics, and Mailchimp.

Bluehost vs Wix: Pricing

Bluehost is probably a bit cheaper, depending on what features you need. It can start from $2.95/mo for shared hosting. The company also offers VPS and dedicated hosting plans for users who need more power. Bluehost’s plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, which makes it a low-risk option to try.

Wix offers a free plan, as well as premium plans starting at $14 per month. The premium plans offer more features, including more storage, bandwidth, and a custom domain. Wix has eCommerce plans, which start at $23 per month and include features like online store capabilities and payment processing.

Bluehost vs Wix: Customer Support

Bluehost offers 24/7 customer support via phone, chat, and email. And let’s be honest, that’s the most important thing. I’ve used the support lots, and it’s really fantastic. The company also has an extensive knowledge base with articles and tutorials.

Wix also offers 24/7 customer support via phone, chat, and email. And like Bluehost, they have a knowledge base with articles and tutorials to help users troubleshoot common issues. Basically, both are about the same in this department.

Bluehost vs Wix: Ease of Use

Bluehost’s hosting plans come with access to a variety of website building tools, including WordPress, Weebly, and Drupal. While these tools can be powerful, they may be overwhelming for users who are new to website building. I think it actually takes more work to get a Bluehost site up. And you also need to learn WordPress, which is awesome once you know it! But expect a bit of time getting your site up to speed. It’s the best–and that’s why it takes a bit longer. And, of course, Bluehost’s support team is available to help when you get stuck.

Wix’s drag-and-drop editor makes it easy for users to create stunning websites without any coding experience. So it’s probably way easier to use it to get something that looks great up online. But the thing is, it’s not great for advanced content sites. So its simplicity great if you just need a simple website, but if you’ve got dreams of something bigger you’ll get stuck.
